Family Residence Brighton
Contract Drawings 2003
Construction 2006
A new residential building and complementary informal garden landscaping within an established suburban streetscape. Site responsive design for a young family, providing north orientation of living areas and childrens bedrooms to backyard and winter sun. A generous central hall stairwell with north highlight daylighting via the roof-space provides supplementary winter sun backlighting to the south rooms.
The roof-space is ventilated via eaves slatted soffit lining and roof cowl to prevent heat build-up to the roof-space from the roof glazing. Robust low maintenance traditional external finishes such as Super 6 galvanised corrugated steel roofing, galvanised steel framed windows and rough-cast natural finish cement render to the walls provide a strong character to the external building form with an Arts and Crafts influence.
