House and Studio St Kilda
Contract Drawings 1999
Construction 2000
The building was designed as a sound-wall noise barrier at the roadway boundary separating a busy major arterial road from the outdoor space of the property.
Bedrooms are situated at ground floor level behind a solid masonry wall without window openings to the road boundary, instead facing the openings away from the road boundary into the protected garden area.
Living areas and studio at first floor level are protected from traffic noise with reverse brick veneer construction and acoustic double windows to openings facing the roadway.
The protected garden side of building is fully glazed and with elevated decks and verandas providing easy access to the garden from the first floor living areas.
