Fitzroy warehouse conversion
Construction 1988
Small plain inner urban single-storey warehouse converted to residence.
2 no. two-storey building blocks inserted within the warehouse space.
The two blocks are accessed at the upper level via a lightweight bridge element designed as a truss. The bridge also provides access to uplights and to large openable north skylights. The building blocks contain the bedrooms and service rooms. The remaining warehouse space forms the living areas.
To provide head clearance over the bridge one of the roof trusses was removed and the roof was hung via steel masts and cables, the cables also acting to tie the roof down from uplift.
