Toorak House additions

Construction 2021

Extending the existing house (previously renovated by this office for a different client in 2002) into the adjacent property purchased by the new client.

The project comprises an additional wing providing a new relocated kitchen, a new loggia for outdoor entertaining, a new separate loft building over a 4-car garage, a pool and tennis court and a new pedestrian entry gateway to replace the existing one.

The original selection of materials for the additions from the 2002 project is continued with the black painted wall boarding and galvanised steel framed glazing for all work not part of the 1930s original house.

The new garage/loft building continues the black wall boarding and gabled roof pitch matching the original building, but in super-six galvanised steel finish. Arrival home by car is a pleasant entry experience into a bright daylit garage at ground level providing immediate views into the adjacent tennis court and garden area.

A new kitchen/loggia wing incorporates a glazed and planted pergola to provide the perception of the kitchen being set within a garden space.

The extensive glazing throughout is protected from summer sun with various shading devices including roof eaves, sliding and fixed timber louvres, and pergolas with deciduous planting.
