Carlton North Residence
Contract Drawings 2009
Construction 2011
A new single residence on an inner suburban site. Living areas and main bedroom suite are elevated to first floor level for privacy and access to sunlight and views, emulating apartment/warehouse style living desired by the client.
Arrival by car is via a generous and pleasant protected ‘porte cochere’ experience with natural light and ventilation amidst landscaping planting.
The roof and ceiling forms are generated by planning scheme setback controls and heritage/streetscape guidelines. Solid masonry walls and concrete floor construction impart solidity to the building form.
Traditional natural finish materials are used throughout to minimise maintenance and allow ageing patina to the building appearance to the exterior, natural grey cement rendered walls and galvanised steel, to the interior polished unpainted hard plaster walls, terrazzo floors, American red oak ceilings and woodwork.
