Beach House
Contract Drawings 2002
Construction 2002
The kite-shaped site generated two building wings placed parallel to the respective side boundaries at the boundary setbacks required by the building code. The separate parents and children zoned wings are joined by a central glazed link and deck area opening out into the retained existing landscape planting.
The butterfly roof form of the wings allows high window head heights providing tall sky views from the habitable rooms, and the short lengths of box gutters of the butterfly roof are within low reach from ground level facilitating easy maintenance of gutters.
A heavy- duty steel pergola over the deck area protects against dropping branches from the retained existing large gum tree.
